lobbes: << logger still alive, though ip only atm
ericbot: Logged on 2019-10-14 00:47:27 mp_en_viaje: was gonna quote "* channel_still_al ( has joined #eulora" from old lobbes logger for eulora for wtf factor, but that's gone huh.
lobbes: my guess is that is using qntra dns maybe? Also, don't forget to use ".biz" and not ".bz"
feedbot: << Trilema -- Dance Flick
BingoBoingo: Update on anyserver. Currently recreating accounts for Pizarro shared hosting users whose blogs have not been brough back online. Due to the differences in where Pizarro's shared 'UY1' and this 'anyserver' live I will not be uploading any user files beyond authorized_keys unless doing so is explicitly requested.
BingoBoingo: The apache version on anyserver from the 2.2 line which means mp-wp Deny, Allow statements in .htaccess will work as opposed to needing 'Require' statements as per UY1's apache 2.4
diana_coman: - got around to it and can confirm I got it working on Intel too (with minimal changes of kernel config ie selecting Intel rather than AMD flags)
ossabot: Logged on 2019-10-13 13:50:13 diana_coman: asciilifeform: re intel, I have an old intel excavated out and waiting to have this set on it, if I get around to do it.
asciilifeform: diana_coman: afaik it'd do no harm to enable both sets of flags ; simply makes for a slightly moar 'obese' kernel.
asciilifeform ftr , originally wrote the dulap kern config with philosophy 'cut errything that's defo not in my irons'
asciilifeform: meanwhile, dig update : found a smaller isp literally 5km from my chair, 300/mo (us) for 22u half-cab, 100Mb/s unlim.; asked re ddos, d00d answr'd 'multiple balanced pipes, and we dun block, eat.' no contract commits. will be goin' there tomorrow to see with eyes before buying. ( fella pleasant enuff, offered to broker a /24 from arin , '5-6k', i said '1st lesse' . w/out arin, 2.50 $ / ea. ip from shop. )
asciilifeform: locking, btw, claims, halfcab.
asciilifeform: the bmore people, otoh, ~still~ chewing their cud, meanwhile.
diana_coman: asciilifeform: that smaller isp actually sounds human-like
asciilifeform: it did. which is why i'ma take the half hr to go there an' recon.
asciilifeform: (set for tomorrow afternoon.)
asciilifeform bbl,meats
BingoBoingo: asciilifeform: ty for the gooder news
BingoBoingo similarly to collect meat. After return if should be time to start breathing life into some webs
BingoBoingo: Aite, one blog is up. The LAMP is lit.
BingoBoingo: bvt: Do you want me to stand up an instance of your blog from the UY1 backup?

BingoBoingo: lobbes: I've got more to bring back.
BingoBoingo: Meanwhile in local news, the fellow who identifies as an economist thrashing about his Party's collapse under him
asciilifeform: wb BingoBoingo's www !
BingoBoingo: asciilifeform: Other www's are getting ready to come up as well. hanbot's and nicoleci's have been requested. Waiting for others to explicitly request theirs given this is 'anyserver' rather than 'UY1 that bingo sees, touches, and locks'
asciilifeform: BingoBoingo: 1 nitpick -- for links that are in fact in 'era 2', i rec to point to the loggers maintained by the living. i've nfi where is phf and for how long his ghost ship will stay afloat.
BingoBoingo: asciilifeform: For some reason feedbot pushed a July post.
asciilifeform: BingoBoingo: i expect to very soon have a 'touchable' cage. unless i turn up something truly outrageous tomorrow at the site visit.
asciilifeform: BingoBoingo: proprietor seemed vehehery eager to sell.
BingoBoingo: Sounds promising
asciilifeform: 'pay, get keys' etc
asciilifeform: BingoBoingo: pretty interesting, imho. the people with 5x the price, take their sweet fucking time, as if dun really like money at all
asciilifeform: meanwhile this one here called in <5min after email.
BingoBoingo: Well, in the smaller op the benefit he gets from 1 more customer probably more tangibly motivating
asciilifeform: BingoBoingo: it aint 'properly' small tho. seems to be owned by some conglomerate. 'coloco'.
asciilifeform: full rack btw goes for ~500 there.
asciilifeform: dunno wai so cheap, and difficult to overcome the 'gut' suspicion that 'there is catch.' but gotta be tried.
asciilifeform: ( that 500 rack comes w/ Gb/s , supposedly. )
asciilifeform: BingoBoingo: lol, asciilifeform apparently not awake at all, ~just now~ understood that was reading a july piece.
BingoBoingo: asciilifeform: These sorts of things happen
asciilifeform: BingoBoingo: 'coloco' fella asked if i had any personally-owned ip chunks. ( asciilifeform does not . ) but iirc mp did. if this machinepark turns out to be worthwhile, and mp ends up sending in a box(s) , he could actually use own ips there.
BingoBoingo: asciilifeform: Depends on the regional registry, but yeah. One of the early headaches down here is that LATAM is IP space poor.
BingoBoingo: traceroute between the chair and 'anyserver' includes a 112 ms hop from brasil to ny
asciilifeform: notbad
BingoBoingo: 16 hops, most of which are frontloaded antel to antel
asciilifeform: BingoBoingo: i'm thinking, the $14 (12 if full-cab) per u , is even cheaper than maxim's. there's gotta be some reason...
asciilifeform: (maxim wanted 35 eu. per u)
asciilifeform: ( i.e. 39 us $ atm )
BingoBoingo: Maybe trying to compete with US-Pacific Coast prices?
asciilifeform: BingoBoingo: i do not presently know what costs there.
asciilifeform: on pacific.
asciilifeform not even had occasion to go there, just yet.
BingoBoingo: asciilifeform: Everynow and then offers from there hit the circular file. Apparently Oregon, Washington, etc have space around that price for full racks
asciilifeform: notbad
BingoBoingo has not looked at those offer in detail recently
asciilifeform: ( if only ben were still alive... )
BingoBoingo: asciilifeform: Well he moved to Texas
BingoBoingo: iirc
asciilifeform: a
asciilifeform actually unearthed ~several~ poorly-advertised dc's in reasonable proximity to hovel, not only this 1. but none of the others 'eager beaver' , no word from'em just yet
asciilifeform: my orig. method of search, was braindamaged. did it from 0 again, properly.
BingoBoingo: Anyways, my CentOS 6 review: It's like Gentoo in that you end up building all of the moving parts. It differs from Gentoo in not having a portage full of recipes for doing so.
asciilifeform: BingoBoingo: already purchased another 'octeon' to set up the entrance router + switch for wherever new asciilifeform cage built. and will start by emplacing apu1's & rk's , then anyone who has the courage to put box in heart of reich.
asciilifeform: BingoBoingo: dulap-I was iirc a centos6 box. it is possible to live in it. but you dun get the fine-grained scalpel that gentoo folx are accustomed to.
asciilifeform: BingoBoingo: not even directly comparable, imho, centos packages are binariolade balls
BingoBoingo: asciilifeform: The packages are worthless. Sure, they are old versions of software, but they are the wrong old versions.
asciilifeform: BingoBoingo: dunno, i was able to stand up phuctor. ( and , not long ago, diana_coman -- logger . ) but then again these aint the 'hungriest' known proggies re deps.
BingoBoingo: Well, the LAMP thing has three moving parts that gotta talk to each other. mp-wp seems happier on apache 2.2 than the 2.4 UY1 had. But, that means cleaning up all sorts of version to version nitpicky breakages.
BingoBoingo: !Qlater tell hanbot_abroad
lobbesbot: BingoBoingo: The operation succeeded.
BingoBoingo: !Qlater tell nicoleci
lobbesbot: BingoBoingo: The operation succeeded.
asciilifeform meanwhile single-stick installatron for dulap-gentoo; will test tomorrow
asciilifeform: console via rs232 , to make the apu1's live.
BingoBoingo moving on to dns daemon setup. This time once its set up it should probably get replicated to actual diverse boxes and locations.
